How do I donate furniture?
1. Go to our Donate Furniture page here!
2. Read our donation criteria to determine if your items would be eligible for a donation.
3. We prefer that you drop your items off at our warehouse; if you need to, you can request a pickup by filling out the "Furniture Pickup Request Form" here.
4. Wait to receive a processing email, then send back photos of the items.
5. If the items will work for our clients, we will try to schedule an appointment for a pickup.
Please note that depending on your items, we may refer you to our sister nonprofit, Honest Junk Company. Don't worry though, all usable items collected by Honest Junk are donated to our numerous partners, so your donation will still be put to good use!
Do you pickup for free?
While we do not charge a fee, with all of our pickups we ask for a suggested donation to help cover the cost of labor and maintenance of our trucks. This also allows us to give furniture to our clients for free, as we do not sell any donated items. We ask for a range based on the time and difficulty of the pickup which is outlined on our Donate Furniture page.
What items can I donate?
We have a detailed break down of what items we can and cannot accept on our Donate Furniture page under "CFB Furniture Donation Criteria". However, these just apply to the Chicago Furniture Bank, as our sister nonprofit, Honest Junk Company, will take anything regardless of its condition!
HOW DOES DROPPING OFF FURNITURE WORK?
We always have at least one person at our warehouse available to collect donations Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm. Please ensure that your items are eligible for donation according to our donation criteria and give us a call when you are on the way (312-752-0211) so we can meet you outside.
DO YOU PICKUP IN THE SUBURBS?
We can pickup anywhere in the City of Chicago and a majority of the surrounding suburbs.
HOW MUCH ADVANCE NOTICE DO I NEED TO GIVE FOR A PICKUP REQUEST?
We ask that you please fill out our Furniture Pickup Request Forum at least one week in advance from the day you would like us to arrive.
I SENT A PICKUP REQUEST FORM BUT HAVEN'T HEARD BACK YET...
First, check your spam folder to make sure our response to your request hasn't been filed away there!
If you still don't see it, please send us a reminder email to donate@chicagofurniturebank.org using the same email address you provided with your initial request, and please add pictures of the items you would like to donate along with when you are available for a pickup.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to pickup all donation requests due to our limited truck capacity.
Will you come inside my home to pickup the donations? Do I need to help?
At your request, we can either have our crew come inside your home and pickup your donations, or you can place them curbside and we can pick them up from there!
However, please note that we cannot pickup items if they are above the second floor in a building without a working elevator. If you require a pickup for items in this position, please see our sister nonprofit, Honest Junk Company.
We also ask, for our crew's safety and your own, that you do not assist our staff in picking up your donations. Our crew is bonded and insured, so you don't have to worry!
